Director Nina Brazier is known for her sensitive, clear-sighted direction (Opera Today), and is described as a ‘skilful director’ (Opera Magazine) ‘ingenious’ (The Stage) and with ‘genuine music theatre sensibility’ (Opera Now).

Nina is Staff Director at Oper Frankfurt where she will direct Mozart’s Ascanio in Alba in the 23/24 season. She has directed Ariadne auf Naxos on the main stage (semi-staged), and revivals from Król Roger to La Forza del Destino among many others, all of which were performed to critical acclaim. Nina is also the Curator and Host of OperaVision’s Next Generation podcast series, following on from three seasons of her acclaimed podcast The Opera Pod.

Nina trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London, has a First Class Degree in Drama from Exeter University, and has taken part in The Operating Table course at the Royal Opera House, the Opera Europa Opera Management Course, and the Royal Court/Channel 4 Directors Scheme.

Her productions of operatic world premieres include Alex Mills’ Dear Marie Stopes at The Wellcome Collection & Kings Place, Tom Randle’s A Telephone Call, The Winter’s Tale with Kim Ashton & The Hermes Experiment developed on residency at Britten Pears Arts, Timothy Burke’s The Physicists at Tête à Tête: The Opera Festival, and Spilt Milk at the Grimeborn Opera Festival at the Arcola Theatre in London (Time Out Critic’s Choice).

Other productions include Acis & Galatea (Ludwigsburg Festival) & Der Mond (semi-staged) both for the Internationale Bachakademie Stuttgart and East West Street at Frankfurt’s Alte Oper with Natalie Dessay and Laurent Naouri. Previous productions include Le Nozze di Figaro for the Saluzzo Opera Academy & the Berlin Opera Academy, Die Sache Makropulos at Theater Bonn as Associate Director to Christopher Alden, Così fan Tutte for Ryedale Festival Opera, the world premiere of Swan’s Inlet at the Center for Contemporary Opera in New York, La Finta Giardiniera, Alcina, Die Lustige Witwe, L’incoronazione di Poppea and Die Zauberflöte (Time Out Critic’s Choice) all for Ryedale Festival Opera, If This is a Man (full reading) at the Royal Festival Hall, Southbank Centre in London and an ongoing world tour of Philippe Sands’ East West Street to the Queen Elizabeth Hall, Southbank Centre, London, the Berlin Konzerthaus, MuTh Vienna, 92nd St Y in New York, Théâtre National de la Colline in Paris and Melbourne Arts Centre among other venues worldwide.

Nina has worked as a visiting Staff Director for opera houses in Europe including the Royal Opera House, London, the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich, English National Opera, Welsh National Opera and Opera North, and she has acted as a visiting director at the Royal College of Music, the Italian Opera Summer School, Guildhall School of Music & Drama and Birkbeck University.
